Guild Festival Theatre

The Guild Festival Theatre (GFT) inspires audiences of today and nurtures the artists of tomorrow by showcasing live theatre masterworks of the past. As a registered charity, GFT provides cultural enrichment through professional entertainment performed outdoors at the unique Greek Theatre in Scarborough’s historic Guild Park & Gardens, where “Art Meets Nature.”. This summer, we are proud to present, Pygmalion, by George Bernard Shaw, from July 11th to August 12th, Wednesdays to Sundays starting at 7:30 PM.

Since its founding in 2009, the organization has brought the performing arts back to Guild Park, site of the former Guild of All Arts, Canada’s original artists’ community during the Great Depression. Today, GFT brings to Scarborough the tangible economic benefits that professional theatre has achieved in other Ontario communities.

Since 2011, we’ve employed a diverse spectrum of students for performance and production positions. School’s we’ve drawn from include Centennial College, U of T Scarborough, Sir Wilfred Laurier Collegiate, Ryerson University, Humber College and York University. We have also established strong links with local community theatre groups and have used their talent and resources where appropriate.

    We meet Henry Higgins, an arrogant, self-centred misogynist disenchanted with society and certain of his own superiority. When an ambitious young flower seller comes to him to make a better life for herself, he sees only a lab experiment. Before she knows it, Eliza Doolittle is caught in his project, sliding down the slippery slope toward her undoing. With the power of glorious Celtic song, a trio of fierce female spirits urges the story along as Eliza navigates the delightful journey toward her necessary independence.

    In this dark comedy, Bessie, Alice, and Margaret have two things in common: they are married to George Joseph Smith, and they are dead. Surfacing from the bathtubs they were drowned in, the three breathless brides gather evidence against their womanizing, murderous husband by reliving the shocking events leading up to their deaths. Recommended for ages 12 and up.

    After selling off the family farm, a retired couple rents out their house and moves to a condo in the city. When they discover that their "nice young man" leasing their home has been raising a different crop altogether, that are thrown into an unexpected adventure.

TWEED & COMPANY Theatre is a creator and producer of Original Canadian Musical Theatre, as well as quality professional grassroots regional theatre.  The company formerly known as IANA Theatre has been around since the fall of 2009, and has produced four large scale original Canadian musicals, as well as countless other Canadian and international productions.  Tweed & Company is based in Tweed, ON, but also produces in Toronto, and has toured its productions around the province.
